I walked into Miss Pixies today and sitting right there in front of me was an entire home set of wooden dollhouse furniture. Perfect for my new guinea pig home!
This Sunday ends the trio of dance workshops at the Fridge. We memorized a dance and followed it through with Kelly Mayfield. Acted out the different environments we live in through motion with Simone Jacobson, and learned the power of motion in public spaces. Come out and move with Brent Talley and friends and learn how to dance in a fun and comfortable environment this Sunday. Next Sunday kicks off the start of our poetry workshops! Brent Talley started dancing in 1981 at the age of 11. He progressed through the urban dance styles of b-boying (breakdance), hip hop freestyle / "Social dances", and house dance as they were being created in the parks and at clubs. He choreographed much of the tour for musical group Dee Lite in 1994 for their "Dew Drops in the Garden" tour. In 1995, he founded the urban dance group Natural Elements Crew which represented all forms of urban dance with a heavy foucus on b-boying (breakdance). Brent has been featured in a bboy special on BET about the present and future state of bboying. Natural Elements has been involved with numerous community outreach activities from organizing their own food drives through having park jams, to working with the FLY organization at American University. Natural Elements has traveled to many underground dance events throughout the nation and Brent has judged bboy events all over the east coast. Brent currently serves as an Artistic Director with the urban dance group "Urban Artistry", which focuses on preserving urban dance culture through teaching history, technique, and progressive creativity. It's getting colder and colder in DC. Harder and harder to ride your bike and not freeze. Yesterday while helping my friend HIP move, I came across her collection of knitted earwarmers. Then I went home and started looking for some of my own. Here's one I found that I really liked.
In searching for the perfect pet, I have come across the perfect pet outfits too! I know the Superman is a little too funny, but I am so getting the rabbit, blue dino, and mouse outfit for my little friend. And maybe in the future, after we get to know eachother, he or she will become a golfer! Peter is building it a home and I am picking out fabric for a little sofa bed and summer sleepy sack. Who knew.
Went to see the new works by my friend and fellow DC female painter, Eve Hennessa, tonight at The Art Registry in Georgetown. I really enjoyed the show!
Today at Perry School we had Family Dinner Night! It's always so much fun to gather and eat with the kids and their families. Before that we did Modigliani chalk pastel portraits. This was done by one of our best little artist! The others you can see smaller in the background.

She is the founding co-director of Sulu DC, a monthly showcase of Asian and Pacific Islander American performing artists in Washington, DC. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in French Language and Literature from the University of Maryland and her writing has appeared in Beltway Poetry Quarterly as well as multiple blogs, including IHM9to5, The Lantern Review and The Couch Sessions. Her project management in the arts spans from nurturing independent artists to advising major arts institutions. She is a proud Burmese-American gypsy. She earned an MA in Arts Management at American University and is the managing editor for Words. Beats. Life: The Global Journal of Hip-Hop Culture. Dance in Public Spaces/Moving Sculptures: We spend our days looking straight forward, often neglecting the multi-dimensionality of the public spaces through which we absent-mindedly float. When is the last time you contemplated the sky or explored the texture of the ground? This two-hour class will begin with a group discussion and group activities that address problems, things to celebrate or interesting facets of the specific community in which the class takes place (locations vary). Through movement, the group will express their relationship to the physical space/community. The instructor will take participants through activities that promote deeper thought about issues affecting them and their immediate environment. Based on the results of these conversations, a series of movement exercises and the group dynamic, the conclusion of the workshop will involve a guerrilla performance (think flash mob and Theatre of the Oppressed) at the nearby metro station, where the public can view and interact with the final product: a "moving sculpture." This social and/or cultural commentary will be expressed through the dancers' movements and will be an ephemeral act of beauty.

Today was the first class of the 2011 Albus Cavus Workshops. Kelly Mayfield taught an amazing dance class. Small and comfortable, I haven't felt that free to move in years.
After months of planning and research, I have concluded that I want a Texel Guines Pig! This isn't the one I'm getting, I wish it was he's so cute, but I want a black or grey one. Texel cavy is characterized by the ringlets or curls that make up it's long, soft coat. Curls are to be found all over the body, even on the belly. The Texel has a short, compact body, with a broad,well-rounded head. The Texel was accepted as a recognized breed by the American Rabbit Breeders Association, Inc. in (1998) This breed was originally imported from England.
So excited to introduce the next series of classes by Albus Cavus. These are a series of workshops held on Sundays in SE DC at The Fridge between 2 and 4. Check out pictures from last years teachers, whose art raised funds to support these classes at the recent Gala. This Sunday is the first of many that run from Jan-May. The first session of classes are based around dance. Check out the whole schedule here. Get out of the cold and come move at The Fridge. Sunday School has never been so fun! This is my new Mary from all the way from Slovakia! She has a Sacred Heart on her chest with a knife going through the left side. It's pretty awesome! It came from a shop across the street from here, the Bojnicky Zamok. Plus it's home to the oldest zoo in Slovakia (with petting zoo) AND the oldest tree in Slovakia! Sounds like a pretty fun place!

This is the mural Peter and I did with some kids in a Juvenile Detention Facility in Maryland. It'a now placed at Oaks senior apartments in Silver Spring.
Pasta with two sauce choices. Toasted bread. Eggs. Bacon. Pancakes. OMG! Barb made food and friends came over to my newly renovated home for the new year. Then off to my friend Juan's house for more good food, music and dancing! Super great start fo a new year!
