What inspires an artist to create? SPIRAT...

Spirat takes its letters from the word INSPIRATION, suggesting the “spirit” of a work of art. Where did a piece come from? What inspired the artist to create?

Living in a media-driven, high-speed world, we hope to share a perspective of current issues revolving around the idea of inspiration.

Some people you never forget.

This is a film made recently by a very talented, old friend of mines friend. She always had the most artistic and interesting friends. Once I went to a wedding of a friend of hers, and the groom wore a motor cycle helmut down the isle and a live band played. Their vows were things like, 'I promise to let you eat sweet sweet yummies late at night in bed'.

This is her friends film, Putty Hill.

A thousand Blooms, True Beauty.

My friend Richard Chu has been working on this book, True Beauty for some time now. It's a photo and essay book about various women in DC. The book is dedicated to and created for his mother and sister who both passed due to cancer. This Sunday Richard threw another fundraiser for the printing of the book. Amazing people, photos and art.

The other day...

I was walking with a friend in Capitol Hill and ran into a 18 year old yellow foot tortoise named Lightning. This in not Lightning, but he was just as awesome and just as big!

He followed his owner just like a dog. We petted him. Super awesome pet! Go Lightning! Go!

Beth Baldwin

Beth is one of my favorite crafters in DC. I began my Beth collection with a mustache pin, it moved from there to a two headed girl monster print i adore and have framed in my house. I would have bought the "thug life" boxer from artomatic if i could have. don't miss this weeks sewing class!

Washington,DC - This sunday April 11, Beth Baldwin (voted DC's Best Local Crafter 2009 & 2010) will be teaching a class in creating plush dolls by hand. The focus will be on creating your own ideas, technique and hand sewing. Bring a pencil and some sketch paper. Fabric, tools and other items used in the creation of your plush will be provided. Suggested donation of $25. All ages. The class is Sunday, April 11 from 2-4 pm at the FREEZER (633 E street Rear SE Washington, DC 20003) (three blocks from Eastern Market Metro).
