On August 14, 2009, Words Beats & Life (WBL) and The Double Down Kings will present Lost and Found: 15 years of, the 2DK L.A.B.. This event is a retrospective gallery show of original works by local name writers and DC Urban Arts Academy students. Lost and Found will feature graffiti on found and rescued objects including home furnishings as well as sculpture, original photography, film, model trains and woodwork. Also on display will be new works by legendary graffiti icon Cool “Disco” Dan and early works by the ominous Borf, courtesy of the curator, Cory L. Stowers.
The show opens at 7 p.m. on August 14th and will run through 7 p.m. on August 21st. The show will be viewable during the regular business hours of Ms. Pixies Things and Whatnot. Store hours are as follows: Wednesday-Sunday 12 p.m.-7 p.m.
The opening celebration is an all-ages event with sounds provided by DJ SMK and a live b-boy demonstration by local dance legend, Toyz Are Us, and his b-boy students from the DC Urban Arts Academy.
An after-party will be held at Almaz Café, located at 1212 U Street N.W., and will be hosted by DJ R.B.I. and feature DJs SMK and Cramski. In addition, there will be a live performance by noon:30! Admission to the after-party is $10 dollars and you must be 21 to enter. This is a fund-raising event for the DC Urban Arts Academy.
Participating artist include: Tim Conlon, Asad “Ultra” Walker, SMK, Demon 202, Sek, Rezist, Kelly Towles, Rei 21, Sime, Eon 2, Mouse, Decoy, Dah, Rosina Photography, Ster, Rope, Cri, Exist and many more.
